A Manifesto for the Future of Safe Sport

A new government is a fresh opportunity to reimagine what safe sport could look like in the future.

On Thursday 4th July, we’ll be heading to the polls to vote in the General Election.

We have not seen the progress we had hoped to see at the government level over the past decade.

Change has been slow and lacking in ambition.

Women and girls in sport continue to face unprecedented levels of maltreatment. 1 in 5 women and girls globally have suffered sexual abuse in a sporting environment during childhood, and women in the UK are 160% more likely than men to cite a lack of safe places to exercise as a barrier to sport.

We have a vision of a sporting community which fosters a safe environment for allathletes and has the protection and welfare of women at its heart.

This manifesto outlines the steps required to make this vision a reality - for all women, everywhere, in sport.

“It is frustrating to have to make these calls again for a government to protect and support survivors of abuse, and implement crucial services to stop abuse in its tracks. We hope that a new government will be a fresh opportunity to reimagine what safe sport looks like in the future, and how we can work together to create a safe environment in sport for all women and girls, everywhere, no matter the sport they choose to play”
